Got an update on the weight. It's 1,280lbs without the main chunks of lead. With 40lbs of buckshot in the framerail, and a 3/8" thick floorboard. (Keeping that weight low. :D) It would be about 1,230lbs if they were trying to make it light.

Also, new page!

These are finally going together. I <3 titanium.

My end of the shop is a lot less interesting.

I've been buried under piles of cylinder heads like these for the last two weeks. Routine checking for cracks and warpage, milling, washing, rinsing, repeating.

They ran it while I was away, so I wasn't able to record the actual dyno run. :(

It ran ok. :P

Car all lettered:

And here's a little brain teaser for you... How do you get maximum performance when the rulebook says no aluminum intake manifolds?

The answer is plastic! :D:

Here is the sprint car that the monster motor went into.

It had a little issue with the top wing.

And last time I saw it, it looked like this:

I was a little worried, because Randy is fairly old, but he was fine. I haven't heard yet if it can be rebuilt. I hope so... That car was 100% new, and this was it's second race ever. From what I saw, the wing slider broke, and the top wing crumbled under it's own downforce. This was at Toledo, just going into turn 3, so he was probably doing 160+mph when it happened. Those top wings are said to provide 6,500lbs of downforce. When that suddenly goes away, making the corner becomes rather impossible. When his wing shredded, he just slid up the track and hit the wall with his right-front tire.

just looking at them reminds me of the eye burning smell of methanol and rear end grease that I grew up to

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall.
BUT Torque is how far you take the wall with you!!

Sometimes they do.

The wings are held in place by a set of cockpit-adjustable brackets. They can be moved forwards and backwards about 18" to put the downforce where you need it. Sometimes, the pressure of the downforce will buckle those brackets and cause the wing to flop down in the back, actually creating lift.

One of our current drivers had that happen to him YEARS ago, and his car actually flew over the wall and landed outside the track. Another more recently.
