Ok, so I've finally got some carporn stocked up again!

Customer came in the other day, so we set his heads and injection on the block that just arrived. It's a Donovan Sprint Car block that has been machined everywhere. It is a cast block, but it looks neatly billet.

Same make as the polished one, but without the polish. A VERY nice piece, very light weight.

A few small hunks of aluminum for the insides...

The Sprint Car is coming along nicely.

Notice how the radiator is oriented.

Shiny paint, chrome and billet aluminum, doesn't get much better then that in my book.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall.
BUT Torque is how far you take the wall with you!!

wait a minute pyro - i thought it was only engines in your world. you build sprints from scratch too? I'm embarrassed.... Seriously - a sand buggy to a sprint car - You just took her to whole new level. anyway - never would of guessed engines have aluminum pistons ???? can they withstand the heat?

and another thing - just let me continue to embarrass myself..... whatever you call those intakes (velocity stacks?) what no air cleaner on a dirt track

teach me - i only need to be told once :D

Sprint cars are not commonly built here. Maybe twice a decade. The new car is a Steele frame not made by us, but is going to be one of the two house cars this year. I missed the part where they filled one of the framerails with lead buckshot to get closer to the minimum weight. ;)

Aluminum is used for 99.99% of pistons, oem, aftermarket, and antique. The heat is fine as long as you don't overheat the motor. We've had a few minor piston issues just lately, so we've started using piston cooling jets. (An oil squirter aimed at the bottom of the piston.)

They run with air cleaners. I'll take a better picture of it, but you can see the giant K&N air cleaner on the engine in the sprint car. The cars we normally deal with are asphalt cars, but they still run air filters. (Unless it's the last race, and the motor is getting rebuilt anyways, lol.)

Dogg, No stressing out here. First race I know of is over a month away. To watch Tony (car owner, not me) working on the car is almost relaxing, he does it so slow.

LOL :haha: WOW! Jammer every vehicle you've owned and even your lawn mower has aluminum pistons. I can't think of anything that doesn't including F1 to air compressors.

ALMOST THERE!

Better yet!

I need to find out what it weighs. One of the lower framerails is literally filled with lead buckshot, and there's a few chunks of lead near the oil pan right now. The class is a 1,600lb minimum including driver. I THINK it's 1,350 as it sits, and the driver is approximately 175lbs. There is no fuel/coolant in the car yet, but there is oil/gear lube.

Waayy Tooo Coooool

1600lbs and like 800+ horse power. Man I love sprint cars!!! Just put some dirt tires on it and you would have something

Some of the best childhood memories I have are of the race car shop. My Dad used to build engines for sprint cars. I still love the smell of methanol and gear lube

The motors for our cars usually run 830-840hp.

Can you even imagine running that car on asphalt without the lead!? It would be closer to 1,275lbs!
